My planned route will be updated on the map shortly but will still be subject to change depending on road and weather conditions, border guard co-operation (having a visa does not guarantee entry), and not least to my own moods and experiences.
So the first leg from Chinnor in Oxfordshire to India will be via the Channel Tunnel to Brussels in Belgium, then Liege and Kaiserlautern, in Germany. From there on to Vienna, across the border into Hungary and Budapest, then Bucharest, Bulgaria, Istanbull and Ankara in Turkey. Entering Iran and heading for Qom, and Bam, then over the Pakistan border and heading for Quetta and Lahore. Across yet another border and into India where I think I may take a few weeks to look around.
From there it is quite simple, dropping down to Australia by boat, across the continent before taking another boat to Argentina. From Buenos Aries we will follow the pan-American highway through Chile, Peru, Ecuador and various Central American countries before Mexico, the USA and finally Canada.

I wonder how do you think to cross from India to Myanmar. The border crossing exsist but is actually closed to everybody.

Bon voyage mon brave. We thought moving to France was an adventure but what the heck. Just remember Iran and Pakistan will not be like Godstone if young bridget gets stubborn and won’t budge and I won’t be passing by on my way to work!! Take care and have a wonderful experience. We expect a visit to hear of the adventure first hand. Good luck and have a safe journey. Your favourite cousin!!

Sounds like an amazing trip!!! Me and a friend are planning on driving from Glasgow to New Dehli, but are having a bit of trouble deciding whether it will be too dangerous to travel through Pakistan at the moment. Have you any advice on this?
Hi Mark, good luck with your trip. I will e-mail direct regarding conditions - Roy

Roy, you should try and make it to Michigan, (USA) on August 15th, 2009. The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one-day celebration of classic car culture that attracts over 1 million visitors, and more than 40,000 muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles.
Hi Eric, I’ll note the date and if I can make it I will. Sounds great. - Roy

How about Lime Rock Park, CT on Labor Day Weekend (early September)?
Have you been in contact with Peter Egan at Road and Track magazine ? I’m sure you’ve read a few of his Bugeye/MG extended road trip journals - your’s is the ultimate! Good luck. If you need help in the New England area, give us an email…
Thank you Chris, very kind. - Roy

Roy,
Looks like you will be passing through Tucson in a few weeks. We have a couple of very active British car clubs down here (www.tucsonbritish.com, http://www.jcsaz.com) and a few ex-pats. Depending on your schedule we could meet up.
Just send an email…
All the best,
Wayne
Thank you for that Wayne. I will do that as soon as I have Bridget back. - Roy

I must keep repeating, thou shalt not covet, thou shalt not covet, thou shalt not covet! But, OH, how I envy you.
Should you find yourself in Southern California, be sure and be our guest, as have over 100 friends from “John O’Groats to Land’s End”. We like to think it is our sparkling personalities, and has nothing to do with the fact that we live a mile due west of Disneyland, have lots of room, an open larder and refrigerator, and can watch the Disney fireworks from our pool, spa and sauna. And provide our own “guided tours”. (All gratis, of course.) And use of the 1960 Frogeye I bought new!
So come join us.

Very kind of you Buster and Pam, thanks. I’ll check out the route and get back to you. - Roy

I see your route has changed to take in some of the West coast. Will you be passing through the Seattle area? We have a good sized MG club, and more than a few skilled Spridget owners in the area should you need any support.

Hi Rich, I will be passing through Seattle on route to Vancouver. Thanks for the invite I will confirm when I am a little closer and know the time situation. Mustn’t get caught by the winter in the Rockies!! - Roy

The worst part of leaving Chicago is getting through the urban srawl that stretches at least 100 miles in every direction but east! You might consider one of the ferries from Wisconsin to Michigan. If you get close to Michigan, get in touch. Hospitality and assistance available, as you need it.

Roy,
Some of your recent comments sound like you’re headed straight to Toronto and then home. If you change your mind, there’s a great British & European car show in Richmond, Virginia on Sunday, September 20th (with a couple of tours on Saturday). It’s our 25th annual event, we’re featuring MG, and we’d love to have you there. If you do end up going to Toronto, it’s a nice place. The MG folks up there are great.

Thanks Dave, I am likely to be going on to Montreal or possibly Halifax, but I doubt we will be back into the USA this trip. I’m sure the event will be great and best wishes. - Roy

Love what you are doing. Such an adventure for a good cause!!
Hi Mary and Will, thanks very much. I will send it on to you. - Roy

Hi Roy!
Are you coming to Ottawa?
Surely you have to see the Parliament buildings after coming this far?

Thanks and good luck!
Robert
Hi Robert, yes I will be arriving on Tuesday. Will e-mail you direct with contact details. - Roy

Hi Roy, what a fantastic achievement. Two of us are departing in March for a trip to Aus in our 1968 Hillman Hunter. Could you possibly spare a little time to chat to us somewhere to discuss your trip and give us a little advice. Our route is intended to be similar to yours through Iran, Pakistan and India. Did you go through China?
The other chap is John Lewis. Tell you more if we can chat.
Barry
Hi Barry, of course I’ll be glad to speak to you and will contact you directly. - Roy
