Two Weeks and Almost Two Thousand Miles

Two Weeks and Almost Two Thousand Miles

We have now been on the road for two weeks and I have only posted a brief introduction to this years’ road trip with Caroline, my first ever passenger. Knowing a friend for many years is not the same as travelling together for 24/7 for weeks on end and so we have been on a learning curve. I have to say, she has been very tolerant and we are settling in to each-others ways and no blood spilt so far. So far we have travelled just under two thousand miles, from the UK to Andorra on the first leg, and from Andorra to our current location in Piedamonte San Germano, Nr Cassino in the Lazio region. The visit to Andorra was a first for us and was in fact, Bridgets’ 63 unique country with me. Andorra is an independent sovereign principality, established by Charlemange in the 8th century. The present principality was formed by agreement between the Catalonian of Spain and the...

On The Road Again, 2023

I must apologise to our regular followers for not posting advanced information regarding our latest road-trip which I had promised to do, but things developed more quickly than expected. There is a change in the format of this years trip. I am delighted to include for the first time, a passenger, a long time friend that worked with me in the 1980's, Caroline Lewis. Neither of us are sure how this is going to work, but it will be fun and we have agreed an exit strategy if it doesn't work. We are already on the road with slightly more luggage than Bridget is used too, but no jerry cans or the 40 litres of extra fuel Bridget usually carries. We left the UK on Wednesday 21st June and having negotiated the English Channel drove down to our first overnight stop, Rouen, in France. We left behind rain showers and enjoyed sunshine and reasonable temperatures for our first day. From Rouen, day...

MG 100th Anniversary

MG 100th Anniversary

This year ushers in the 100th anniversary of the first ever MG motor car and the appearance of the first MG Motors electric sports car. This is the first official picture of the NEW MG Cyberster electric car due to be released in the UK later this year. The first electric sports car produced by MG Motors since the marque was bought by its Chinese owners, it has been eagerly anticipated since its conception a couple of years ago. To the MG enthusiast, a very exciting sports car continuing what the brand was best known for. Two years ago, and again recently, I offered to drive one of these cars 'around the world' as soon as it was released, independently proving the technology and engineering quality and recreating the feat accomplished by Bridget the Midget. Initially, the Chinese management were enthusiastic about the offer, but have now declined to follow up the challenge with me. So this year, I can confirm, Bridget will...

Bridget Goes International

Hi, in case you are a regular follower and English isn't your first language, we have added a translation feature in the top righthand corner! If we haven't included your language and would like us to, please leave a comment and we'll see what we can do (not the USA I'm afraid. We still refer to the 'boot and the bonnet' and not the 'trunk or the hood', etc. Sorry). Hope the module works for you. - Roy Locock...

Heading Home

Heading Home

Bridget and I have left Colditz and driven 225 miles north-west to Arnhem. I have decided that 20 different countries are enough for this trip. The drive to Arnhem has been relaxed with excellent roads and, in the main, good drivers. Bridget has now added ten new countries bringing her tally to 62 different countries in all. Calling in to Arnhem is largely a personal inclination. I joined the British Army in 1962, straight from school, and my first drill sergeant in basic training was a paratrooper that had served in 1st Battalion Airborne dropping into Arnhem during the Second World War. He was injured and carried that injury for the rest of his life. He made a significant impression on the rest of my life and I just want to pay my respects. I would love to find some sort of record, even just a photograph, although that is the proverbial needle in the haystack. Like most tourists to Arnhem...
