I’ve been travelling in my MG, Bridget the Midget, for nearly twenty years, through sixty-four different countries. Following some of the more difficult trips, the Abingdon to Cape Town trip for example, a certain amount of restoration work to Bridget was necessary. Unfortunately the same cannot be done for me, so I have come to the decision that I shall do one more long trip, health permitting, before folding up our maps.
My plan is for a run of around 10,000 miles that will take us across Europe, through Turkey and up to my first destination, Georgia. I want to meet with another population that is prepared, at considerable risk, to reject the oppressive rule of the Putin regime. From Georgia we will drive around most of the Black Sea coast to re-visit Moldova and Ukraine. From Ukraine we will head north to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania including a visit to the Riga Motor Museum.
I am expecting this trip to take around three months in all. Bridget should then be heading to The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu for a two year visit, as long as building work there is complete.
Finally, this website was originally started just to record my ‘Round the World’ record making road trip in 2008/9. It continued covering our other trips because people wanted to follow our adentures, however the costs incurred for maintaining the site have always been borne be myself. The next years’ costs will become due within the next couple of months and so I intend to close the site down. Sorry, but this will be before the final trip.
I hope that everyone has enjoyed the adventures, almost as much as I have.
Thanks Roy for the info, and all the best on this final trip. We would still be interested in following the trip, so could you maybe blog it on Facebook? We will be in UK late June/early July for the MGA 70th party, but I guess you will have left by then?
Cheers, Gary & Anita.
Hi Gary, good to hear from you and that you are both well. Made the last post to quickly and minor adjustment means that this site will continue. Not in a position to confirm any dates for this final trip, but will keep you informed. Hope I may be able to meet up but need to see how things pan out. Are you bringing that gorgeous ‘twin cam’? Hope the cyclone missed you recently too, I was thinking of you.
Cheers, Roy
Hi Roy. The Cyclone went through, and although we didn’t suffer much damage at our place, we have been without power, phone and internet for 11 days (came back on 2 days ago)…mainly damage to all the infrastructure supplying all this.
Not bringing cars this time, as we couldn’t get insurance. The laws involving insurance in the UK have changed..for instance, you have to be a permanent UK resident, the vehicle needs to be registered in the UK, etc.etc….so all 12 of us that were taking cars decided it was too hard!…even the MG Car Club couldn’t assist!
Some people have entered a purchase and buy back arrangement with a UK dealer, and are buying later TF’s. Anita and I, as we are not doing the majority of the planned touring are just hiring a rental for the 12 days in the UK.
Maybe we will catch up at some spot.
Cheers
